distributed printing from OSM

COSprint for distributed printing and spooling across the enterprise

COSprint is an advanced distributed printing and spooling package used by major corporations around the world. Much more than a simple print spooler, it provides automatic routing, management and delivery of documents (report distribution) output by key business applications, including SAP R/3 and Oracle Financials, in enterprises of all sizes.

COSprint provides distributed printing in enterprises using a mixed Unix, Linux and Windows infrastructure, the most common combination for enterprise-class business applications. Like the other members of OSM's COSMOS family of system management products, it delivers broad functionality, here in the context of distributed printing. A small number of staff are thereby equipped to provide secure management for an extensive, network distributed document printing and output delivery service across their enterprise.

Because of its designed-in scalability, COSprint is used in organizations of all sizes. Some installations are not concerned with all aspects of distributed printing, but instead use the product as no more than a replacement print spooler for Unix (instead of the standard Unix print spooler lp or lpr). Others make full use of its ability to manage print jobs from a Windows environment, effectively using it as a Windows print spooler.

Perhaps the greatest added value is found when using COSprint for the printing of documents produced by SAP R/3, Oracle Financials or PeopleSoft. Such enterprise-scale applications always provide some form of spooling, but often confined to modest control functions. COSprint greatly improves on the standard facilities and raises the standard of control for documents to equal that of the other functional areas. COSprint has been certified for use with SAP R/3.

OSM's COSMOS family of products delivers a broad range of system control functions to enable a small number of system administrators manage a large number of systems while working from one or a small number of control points. Starting from a standpoint of operations automation, COSMOS features three main branches: output management, automated job scheduling and user management.

OSM's products have been designed to complement the PATROL products supplied by BMC Software. In particular, there is a PATROL Knowledge Module for COSprint which both enables the monitoring of all internal COSprint events and allows COSprint to be operated from a standard PATROL console. By using the COSMOS and PATROL products together, an enterprise can meet almost all its needs in the area of E-DSM.
